Scioto Downs Gears Up For Opener

Horsemen will notice a significant purse increase when entering their horses for opening day at Scioto Downs Racino.

Live harness racing starts back up next week on Wednesday, May 8 and the first condition sheet has now been posted. Purses will range from $5,000 – 25,000. The box will close for the first day of racing on Friday, May 3. Horsemen are reminded to call the new race office phone numbers at 614-295-4668 and 614-295-4669.

“Being the first track in the state to open its VLT facility, our horsemen are able to reap the benefits of having enhanced purses,” said Scioto’s General Manager of Racing Operations Stacy Cahill. “We have worked with them to write conditions that fit with the purse structure and the horses that will be racing here.”

Condition sheets will be posted to the USTA website as well as on Scioto’s website.

Qualifiers will be held Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m., with the box closing Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.

Racing will be held every Wednesday-Saturday with a post time of 6:30 p.m. through Saturday, September 14. Special 1:00 p.m. cards will be held on May 27 (Memorial Day), July 4th, August 3 (State Fair races) and September 2 (Labor Day). The box will close on Friday for Wednesday race nights, Monday for Thursday, Tuesday for Friday and Wednesday for Saturday. For the two special Monday cards (Memorial Day and Labor Day), the box will close on Thursday.
