With two record Atlantic Classic Yearling Sales in the rearview mirror, organizers are looking forward to the 2023 edition scheduled for Oct. 6 with entries opening May 1 and closing on May 31 at 5 p.m. AST.
The 2022 edition set a new record $1.89 million gross. Anyone wishing to consign their yearling to the 2023 sale can access the online entry page and consignor contract on the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA) website by clicking here.
Hard copies of entry forms may be picked up and submitted at the PEIHRIA Office at 420 University Ave., Suite 204A in Charlottetown, PE. Office hours are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. AST.
The 2023 edition will have some changes in format with yearlings to be on the grounds by 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 for a dedicated viewing for prospective trainers and owners from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. that day. Anyone not able to have their yearling onsite by 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 is asked to contact Sale Manager Julie Jamieson. The sale this year will have a slightly earlier start time of 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 and consignors are asked to have their yearlings ready to be shown with hip numbers on by 9 a.m. that day.
“Red Shores has graciously agreed to move their normal Thursday race date to Tuesday the week of the sale allowing us to make an exciting change in format for 2023,” said Nicholas Oakes, Chair of the Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale Committee. “This will take the pressure off a normally hectic Friday morning in Crapaud before Atlantic Breeders Crown Weekend and allow horsepeople to inspect yearlings and make some decisions the day before with more time to shop. Plus, this allows us to start the sale an hour and a half earlier on Friday and get the yearlings loaded and on their way to their new homes while the sun is still out. The last two years were full of records and we hope to see another great showing for the 2023 edition.”
Also new in 2023, consignors can register to get their sale proceeds sent to them via direct deposit. Interested consignors can download the form at peiharnessracing.ca and email it to [email protected].
The Atlantic Classic Sale will also require proof of liability insurance on all yearlings for 2023 with that paperwork submitted by Oct. 1 to the Sale Manager. A valid farm insurance policy that covers animals off-property will be sufficient, otherwise consignors can purchase liability insurance coverage on each animal for the low price of $10 from Standardbred Canada.
For further information or to enter a yearling before May 31, contact Julie Jamieson at 1-902-569-1682.
