Longtime harness racing industry participant Linda Estelle 'Linda' Hughes passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, N.B. on April 20, 2020 at the age of 72.
Born in Fredericton on March 22, 1948 she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Hughes and Margaret (McGinley) Hughes.
Linda graduated from FHS in 1965 and then New Brunswick Business College shortly after. The majority of her career was with Fredericton Exhibition (NBEX) retiring after 30 years. Friends in the harness racing industry will remember her passion for horses and Fredericton Raceway. That passion extended to all animals, especially cats; she always had at least two.
Linda lived life on her own terms, and it was such a large life that it cannot possibly be written here; if you knew Linda, you would understand this. Just to highlight a few things she enjoyed: reading, music, sports (Go Vikings and Leafs!), bowling, curling, NASCAR, clogging, wine and visits to Grand Manan.
She was a beautiful, kind, loving and generous person. Her sense of humour and light-up-the-room personality will always be remembered. Her greatest legacy is her son, Ted, who exemplifies everything wonderful about Linda and more. Her love for her family was her strength and that love was extended to all her friends. She will be forever missed and forever loved.
Thank you to staff on 4SW and Palliative Care Unit for their kind and empathetic care of Linda.
Linda is survived by her son, Ted Sullivan of Scarborough, Ont.; her sister, Catherine (Bill Seto); brothers, Gregory (Susie MacNeil), Mark (Marlene Finnie), Barry (Karen Gibson) and Cyril (Amy Whytewood-Hughes); aunts, Catherine McGinley, Pauline Allain, Marjorie Hughes and Sue Allen, all of Fredericton and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and numerous cousins.
Due to the current situation with COVID-19, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
For those who wish, donations can be made to Carma, Fredericton Chapter or The Fredericton Homeless Shelter or a Charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed through bishopsfuneralhome.com.
