John ‘Brownie’ Brown Passes

Longtime raceway worker John A. ‘Brownie’ Brown, 76, of Clay, NY, passed away on April 8, 2020, at home surrounded by his family, after a long illness.

Brown was born in Syracuse on February 24, 1944, the son of the late James and Mary Perella.

Brown was an all-around athlete who loved the game of baseball and basketball. After his service in the National Guard, he became a basketball referee and baseball coach.

Brown worked for Vernon Downs for 50 years and was loved and admired by all that met him. He worked hard his entire life to take care of his family that he cherished. Nothing mattered more to Brown than family and friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; daughters, Kelly and Karin (Grant); grandchildren, Kathy (Johnny), KoryRay (Jon), and Ricky; and great grandchildren, LunaRose, Bailey, Hendrix and Julian.

Memorial contributions may be made to Upstate Golisano Childrens Hospital.

Due to the circumstances of COVID-19, a memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
