John Stewart Passes

Longtime harness racing industry participant John Arthur 'John' Stewart of Fredericton, N.B. passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2020 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital at the age of 74.

Although John was formally from Mount-Pleasant, P.E.I., he lived most of his life in Fredericton. All who knew John knew that he had a great passion for harness racing and loved to challenge anyone to a game of cribbage. John worked very hard for Air Canada for many years and also devoted countless hours at the Fredericton Raceway since the 1960s.

John is survived by many brothers and sisters, Elmer Stewart, Lester (Florance) Stewart, Doris Winchester, Charlene (Jimmy) MacDonald, Charly (Terry) Stewart, Hazel Enman (Ricky MacDonald), Bruce Stewart, Edgar Stewart (Marie Fitzgerald), Eva (Larry) MacDonald, Jessie (Arthur) Rogers, Jean Stewart (Doug MacKendrick), Lorne (Karen) Stewart, Lillian (Kenny) Rogers, Rebecca Stewart (Kent Rogers), Rickey Stewart (Nola Dugay), sister-in-law Corinne Stewart and by numerous nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his father, Cecil J. Stewart and mother, Binie (Grigg) Stewart, as well as his brother Leon Stewart, brother-in-law, Oswald "Ossie" Winchester and sisters-in-law Eleanor Stewart and Judy Stewart.

Arrangements entrusted to the Bishop’s Funeral Home, Fredericton, N.B. and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
