The Winter of Cancellations continues as three tracks on the east coast have announced cancellations for today (Thursday, March 5). Additionally, officials with the Meadowlands Racetrack and Winners Bayonne have also announced that those locations will be closing early due to the winter storm.
Freehold Raceway has cancelled its afternoon card, while Dover Downs and Yonkers Raceway have also scrapped live harness racing cards set for tonight.
In terms of Yonkers, the track’s afternoon/early evening simulcasting is continuing until approximately 6 p.m.
Live racing at Yonkers is scheduled to resume Friday (March 6), with first post at 7:10 p.m. Note that Friday’s card includes a Pick 5 carryover of $3,743.02 (50-cent base wager, Races 7 through 11).
Horsepeople are advised that there is no draw today (Thursday), with a ‘two-fer’ (for Tuesday/Thursday, March 10/12) taking place tomorrow (Friday, March 6, box closes at 4 p.m.). Officials with Dover Downs have announced via release that weather and driving conditions resulted in the cancellation of Dover’s Thursday, March 5 live racing program. A predicted all-day snowfall which is expected to end in early evening forced the postponement.
Dover Downs does not race on Friday and Saturday. The next scheduled card of live racing will be on Sunday, March 8 with post time at 5:30 p.m.
Race secretary Rod Newhart has scheduled a double-draw this Sunday (March 8). The draw for Wednesday (March 11) is scheduled for Sunday morning with entries accepted from 8:30 a.m. until the entry box for Wednesday’s card will close at 10 a.m.
Also, on Sunday, (March 8) the draw for the Thursday (March 12) card will also be held. The box for that draw will close at the normal time of 12 noon sharp.
Dover’s race office will open at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday to take phone entries or through the online entry system.
The Meadowlands Racetrack and Winners Bayonne will both be closing at 7 p.m. this evening (Thursday, March 5) due to the winter storm.
Both locations will re-open Friday morning for simulcasting at 11 a.m.
Live racing will resume Friday night at the Meadowlands with first-race post time at 7:15 p.m.
