Trot Insider would like to advise horsemen of some important information pertaining to the start of the 2021 stakes season in Alberta.
The first stakes in Alberta for 2021 are the Bev Sears and Ed Tracey Stakes, a pair of open stakes for four-year-olds that were created to alleviate the cancellation of last year's Moore's Mile and Norm Kennedy for three-year-olds.
The original conditions for these stakes this year accidentally noted the races as restricted to Alberta-owned, sired or foaled horses and nomination forms were sent to the connections of eligible Alberta-owned, sired and foaled horses as such. Please note the correction that the Bev Sears and Ed Tracey are indeed open stakes for four-year-olds.
Both events are currently scheduled for May 16, 2021, at Century Downs, and nomination payments are due March 15.
