Hal Hewitt Passes

Standardbred racehorse owner Hal H. Hewitt, 82, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Allegan, Michigan, on December 12, 1937, to the late Charles A. and Betty Counterman Hewitt. He was a graduate of Otsego High School and a 1960 graduate of Michigan Tech where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

He was an Eagle Scout, a mechanical engineer for Clark for 32 years and owned Standardbreds for 17 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Baldwin Hewitt. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Phyllis Britton Hewitt; sister, Kay (Roger) Henrickson; son, Eric (Linda); daughter, Dawn; bonus daughters, Lesley (Sam) Lawson and Sarah (Wes) Dickerson; grandchildren, Joshua (Hannah), Seith (Amanda), Jamie, Nicole Roberts, Addison Lawson, Morgan Lawson, John Mac Dickerson, Samuel Dickerson, and Emma Dickerson.

Due to current gathering restrictions, a private graveside service will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego and a memorial service at a later date.
