COVID-19 Positive In Down Under Racing

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is continuing to affect the Down Under harness racing industry. Additional cancellations have been announced due to a racing participant having now tested positive for the virus.

On Wednesday, March 25, Harness Racing New South Wales announced that the racing participant that has tested positive is an employee of the Penrith Harness Racing Club.

According to the HRNSW, it has established that the employee of the Penrith Harness Racing Club was not in physical contact with any trainers, drivers or stablehands at the Penrith harness meeting on Thursday, March 19. HRNSW further stated that there was no opportunity for any contact to occur between the Penrith employee or any licensee before, during or after the race meeting.

It has also been announced that the Victorian trots meetings that had been scheduled for Wednesday (March 25), Thursday (March 26) and Friday (March 27) have been suspended while Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) investigates the situation surrounding the COVID-19 positive.
