Terrible track conditions over the past two weeks caused by spring thaws forced the cancellation of five racing cards at Monticello Raceway. Due to the cancellations, the track has re-scheduled its eighth annual St. Paddy Pace for Thursday, March 26.
Frost coming out of the ground in the Catskill Mountains has, from time to time, forced cancellation of racing cards at the Mighty M – and other northern racetracks – during the springtime and Mother Nature makes no compromises.
During the 2003 racing season Monticello Raceway lost its St Paddy Pace and its entire race cards for two days, due to cancellations forced by the spring thaw.
The St. Paddy Pace is the third leg of the Mighty M’s Heritage Drivers Series.
On March 17, a full field of drivers of Irish extraction was slated to go to post in the St. Paddy Pace, Monticello is hoping the drivers will return for the re-scheduled event.
