Horseplayers are reminded that The Raceway at Western Fair District is planning on going forward with its program of live racing that is scheduled for this evening (Wednesday, March 18).

While discussing the situation with the London Free Press, Western Fair District Director of Marketing and Communications Greg Blanchard reiterated that the raceway has closed both its sports centre and grandstand – which includes the Top of the Fair dining room and simulcast facilities – to the general public until further notice.

Post time for the track’s Wednesday card will be at 6:15 p.m. To view the entries for Wednesday, click here.

Seeing as though many tracks have abandoned live racing as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, tracks that continue racing are in a position to experience an uptick in handle. Although according to Blanchard, “That’s not the reason we’re doing it (racing). It’s more for the horsepeople. We haven’t [seen a decrease in participation from trainers and drivers].”

The track previously announced that live racing will continue as scheduled, but only essential staff, licensed participants and regulators will be permitted on the premises during racing.

Western Fair District is continually monitoring the situation updates on COVID-19 being provided by the three relevant levels of public health in Canada – the local health unit (Middlesex London Health Unit), Ontario Health, and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
