Sylvia MacDonald Passes

Sylvia Kathleen MacDonald (Strickland), wife of the late Agnus (Sonny) MacDonald, passed peacefully Monday, March 12, 2012 at her residence

, St. John and St. Stephen Church Home. Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Florence (MacLean) Strickland.

MacDonald moved to Saint John in 1948. She loved all sports especially baseball, hockey and harness racing. She was employed by Exhibition Park for over 30 years as Clerk of Course. She was also a Canadian Trotting Association field representative from 1987 to 1993.

MacDonald is survived by her children, Albert (Margaret) of Powassan, Ont.; Bonnie (Charles) Charette of Ottawa, Ont.; Heather (Leroy) Hatfield of Rothesay, NB; Bruce of Allison, Ont. and Ross of Milton, Ont.; her grandchildren, Christine, Michael, Blair, Heather, Bonnie, Erin and Cal. Sylvia has 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Clyde. Sylvia was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Church Home for the wonderful care and compassion Sylvia received during her many years there.

Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace Presbyterian Church, 101 Coburg Street. For those who wish, donations can be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or St. John and St. Stephen Church Home would be appreciated by the family.
