Serafino 'Sam' Fava Passes

Horseman Serafino ‘Sam’ Fava passed away at Hackensack University Hospital in Hackensack, NJ, on Wednesday, March 9, at the age of 60.

On February 5, Fava suffered a massive stroke while in the Meadowlands Racetrack paddock and underwent surgery that night for removal of a clot.

Fava was born in Mt. Kisco, NY, on March 26, 1955, to the late Velia Bueti Fava and the late Diego Fava. He was reared in Mt. Kisco and graduated from Fox Lane High School. He worked with horses the majority of his life. He was a well-known and respected horseman, a driver, trainer, breeder and owner.

He is survived by his nephew and niece, Richard Fava of Madison, WI, and Kasey Fava of Boston; his uncles, Dick Bueti (Alice) of Pawling, NY, Serafino Bueti (Jean) of Chappaqua, NY, and Tony Fava (Francesca) of Chappaqua, NY; aunts Serafina and Lena; and numerous cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint John & Saint Mary Church,30 Poillon Drive, Chappaqua, NY, on Monday, March 14, at 10 am. Interment to follow at 11:15 am at Saint Francis Cemetery, Mt. Kisco. Visiting hours at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home,288 Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY, on Sunday, March 13, from 4-8 pm.
