Qualifying legs have concluded for the inaugural handicapping league offered by Racetracks Of Ontario Marketing
& Promotions (ROMP).
The grand prize of $14,500 will be contested on Thursday, March 4. The top two ranking teams from each of the seven participating sites will handicap 10 races from Woodbine, Meadowlands and Rideau. Hypothetical $2 win and place wagers will determine the team with the highest bankroll.
The teams advancing to the ROMP Handicapping League finals are:
- Grand River Raceway: The Losers, The Farm
- Clinton Raceway: RJG, Flying W
- Georgian Downs: Casper's Connections, Alberton
- Hiawatha Horse Park: Aints, Bettor Without Frank
- Hanover Raceway: Team Geisel, Bobsy Twins
- Western Fair Raceway: Condor, Chicken Hawks
- Flamboro Downs: Flamboro Rejects, Team Sproxton
Among the competitors is Roy Sproxton (Team Sproxton at Flamboro Downs), winner of the 2009 TROT Canada National Handicapping Championship. In that tournament, Sproxton outplayed 39 players from across Canada and earned $25,000.
The prize distribution for the ROMP Handicapping league is as follows:
- First: $7,250
- Second: $3,625
- Third: $1,740
- Fourth: $1,160
- Fifth: $725
ROMP extends its appreciation to all players who participated in this league - the first of its kind in Ontario - and wishes all finalists the best of luck on March 4.
