Add Buffalo Raceway to the list of North American harness tracks that have had to alter their Friday (Feb. 21) plans due to wet and mild winter weather conditions.
Officials with Buffalo Raceway have announced that the track's live racing card for Friday, February 21 has been cancelled. Record rainfalls along with a thawing track have caused unsafe conditions. The online World Harness Handicapping Championship Qualifier sponsored by the USTA has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a date to be announced.
Based on the weather forecast and temperature for Saturday, Buffalo officials are very hopeful and anticipate racing to continue Saturday February 22 with a first post of 6:40 pm. Qualifiers are also scheduled to be held on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The scheduled Friday qualifying session at Woodbine Racetrack was cancelled earlier this week. Woodbine’s next session of qualifiers is scheduled to head postward on Saturday, February 22 with the first race set for 4 p.m. All horses entered for Friday’s qualifiers will remain in the box for Saturday. Woodbine Racetrack will also not be available for training on Saturday.
On Thursday, officials from the race office at Rideau Carleton Raceway announced that the track will be closed for training on Friday.
Officials from Flamboro Downs announced Thursday that the track’s qualifying session scheduled for the morning of Friday (Feb. 21) was cancelled. Flamboro is scheduled to offer its next live card on Saturday (Feb. 22), which will feature a 1:00 p.m. first-race post time.
