Peter Lyons Passes

Peter Lyons, a regular trainer and owner at Kawartha Downs during the 1970s and ‘80s, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ont. on February 11. He was 80.

Born on July 13, 1936 in Lindsay, Ont., Pete resided at Retirement Suites of Kawartha Lakes, Bobcaygeon, Ont. Pete was predeceased by his parents, Doctor Clive and Edna Lyons. Survived by his wife Janice (Jan) Lyons, married for 58 years. Pete was brother to John Lyons (Pat), Ed Lyons, and Bill Lyons (Diane). Pete is also survived by his four children; Patti Lyons (John) of Amherstburg, Ont., Jennifer Brown (Dave) of Peterborough, Ont., Jeff Lyons (Kim) of Whitby, Ont., and Tim Lyons (Heather) of Merritt, B.C. Pete was the proud Papa of nine grandchildren.

He retired as Area Manager of Central Maintenance, General Motors after 33 years. Pete was an excellent horseman and raced two fan favourites, Kingly Hour and Prides Brat.

At Pete's request, there has been cremation and no funeral. There will be a family burial in the late spring when his ashes will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, Pete has requested any donations in his memory be made to Lindsay Boys and Girls Club. Condolence messages may be sent to comstockkaye.com.
