Fresh off picking up her third O’Brien Award as Canada’s Trainer of the Year, Casie Coleman has been awarded with the first official Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games tote bag from Masterfeeds

Coleman, Canada’s top standardbred trainer, was the first winning participant in a program launched through a joint partnership between Equine Canada and Masterfeeds to raise funds for the Canadian Equestrian Team enroute to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.

Coleman, 29 and the first woman and three-time winner of the Canadian harness racing’s prestigious O’Brien Award for trainer-of-the-year Award, has amassed over $19 million in purse earnings and 1,100 wins in her young career.

“I like to give back to the horse industry when I can,” says Coleman. “Even though this program is outside of harness racing, it’s all about helping Canadian athletes achieve their best in other equine disciplines.”

Masterfeeds is donating $1 from the purchase of each bag of ‘Love Bites’, the Official Treat of the Canadian Equestrian Team, to the Equine Canada Athlete Assistance Fund. This fund’s sole purpose is to help realize the dreams of many of our athletes - especially those most in need of financial support – to compete for our country at WEG.

Not only did Coleman redeem the first prize, but the first six. Since the start of the promotion, she has purchased over 48 bags of Love Bites – a specially formulated treat that offers a healthy snack option while supporting the nutritional needs of today’s performance horse.

“When I first saw the new treats at Freelton Feeds and noticed that Masterfeeds, my current feed supplier, was donating a portion of sales to the Canadian Equestrian Team, I decided to support them in their effort,” says Coleman. “Not only do my horses love the treats, but I am giving the official tote bags to my staff. So everybody is happy!”

“It is so refreshing to see someone like Casie supporting the industry beyond her own sport,” says Blair Keeling, Masterfeeds equine business manager. “She understands what it’s like to realize a dream and wants to play a role in helping other Canadians achieve theirs. We ask all horse owners across Canada to join us and support our Canadian athletes to realize their dreams.”

Love Bites treats are available for sale across Canada at retail feed outlets and tack shops.

Masterfeeds is the Official Gold Feed Partner of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. The Games, to be held in Lexington, KY, USA from September 25 – October 10, 2010, are the world championships of the eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI). Held outside of Europe for the first time, the 16-day competition involving 600 riding competitors and 700 horses from more than 60 countries is expected to be attended by as many as 600,000 spectators and viewed on television by an international audience exceeding 460 million. Tickets have already been sold to enthusiasts in all 50 U.S. states and 48 countries.
