Grand River Raceway is approaching the half-way marker in its Winter Wednesdays Handicapping Tournament. Steve Jamrik was the winner of the fourth qualifying round, held on February 6, and the victory came with a little help from his friends.
The Guelph, ON resident attends Grand River Raceway each Wednesday with his pals Gino and Dale, who have coached the racing newbie in both harness and Thoroughbred handicapping. His six contest selections for Gulfstream granted him a pair of winners, including a 38-1 longshot in the final dash. His tally of $88.00 put him $1.50 over runner-up J. Gordon for the $100 top prize.
There was an unprecedented four-way tie for third with Andrew McTaggart, Tom Lane Jr., Luigi Manzo and Mitch Henges each cashing for $60.10 with three runner-up spots at Charles Town Races.
The top 10 finishers in each of the 10 legs of the Winter Wednesdays Handicapping Tournament advance to the $4,000 final on March 27. February 13 is round five of the contest. Patrons can play for free at Grand River Raceway and its OTB site, The Bettor Club, in Kitchener, ON.
