Trot Insider has learned that Eileen Renatta Weitzel, the matriarch of Glenview Livestock fondly known by many in the harness racing industry as 'Granny Glenview,' passed away with her family at her side at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener on Saturday, December 7 in her 88th year.
Eileen (Wilson) Weitzel was the beloved wife for 68 years of Bill Weitzel of Glen Allan. Dear mother of Peggy Ann Schlegel of Glen Allan. Loved grandmother of Robert John Schlegel and his wife Cindy of Glen Allan, and great-grandmother of Bobbi-Lee (Shaun McDonald) of Everton. Dear sister of Ruth Hagen of Glen Allan, and Wayne (Marilyn) Wilson of White Rock, B.C. Predeceased by her brother-in-law Stanley Weitzel, son-in-law John Schlegel, three brothers Gerard (Hack), Robert, Floyd, and a sister Patricia Hunsberger.
Visitation will take place at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Monday, December 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, December 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service and reception will be held on Wednesday, December 11 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Glen Allan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s General Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
