It has been announced that Martin Scharf will present the seventh annual Gallo Blue Chip Scholarship during the Saturday, January 12 program at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Scharf will be presenting the scholarship to Julia Zenker.

Zenker is currently studying at Wagner College on Staten Island, where she is majoring in Philosophy and Spanish, in pursuit of a law degree. She has maintained a 3.9 GPA at Wagner.

The $15,000 award, which is sponsored by Scharf -- in honour of his pacing gelding who won over $4.2 million in his career and retired as the richest pacer of all-time -- pushes the overall Gallo Blue Chip Scholarship educational benefits over $115,000. Zenker, 20, has a wide array of volunteerism in her resume. Over the past few summers she has divided her summer days between being a fulltime exercise rider at the Schnittker Stable and parade marshal at Goshen Historic Track. She has worked with several other trainers at Goshen since she was young.

“I would like to thank Mr. Scharf on behalf of my entire family for offering this incredibly generous scholarship in the name of an equally incredible horse,” said Zenker of the award.
