Campbell Inching Closer To Record

Joseph Michael is in town to try to extend his winning streak to four when he takes on the Preferred pacers Saturday at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park.

Trainer Eric Wilson has hired the services of Mike Stevenson to do the driving from Post 8, and while the five-year-old top gun has been levelling the competition at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, N.B., he meets a tough nine-horse field which includes Balanchine and General Luckypercy from the Jackie Matheson stable. Capitalism, who romped to a four-length victory last week in 1:56.3 for Jason Hughes, has also been entered the $2,200 event.

Block Party has drawn the rail for conditioner Darren Trainer and owners Bill, Brian and Blake Andrew. Marc Campbell will be in the bike. Campbell is only six wins away from equalling his single-season wins record at Charlottetown. The O’Brien Award nominee is booked to drive nine horses on the card.

Dunmore Alpha is the morning-line favourite in the trot class (Race 7). The son of Black River gets Harold Shepherd in the bike from trailing Post 9.

First-race post time for the 13-dash program is 1:00 p.m.
