Cumberland Cancels Friday, Postpones Saturday

Live harness racing was cancelled after the second race on Friday, Dec. 5 at First Tracks Cumberland and track management has announced that the Saturday, Dec. 6 card has been postponed until Monday, Dec. 8.

Post time remains 10:55 a.m., with the same program, race sequence and post positions originally slated for Saturday to be held in its entirety on Monday.

The Sunday, Dec. 7 program remains unchanged at this time.

Friday's second race was marred by an incident when seven-year-old pacing mare Shes A Sassy Beach fell while racing in fifth place towards the inside during the third quarter heading into the backstretch. Driver Mcgwire Sowers remained in the sulky.

The track announcer reported that both horse and driver walked off the track under their own power. Autym Sowers, trainer of Shes A Sassy Beach and wife of Mcgwire Sowers, stated in a social media post on Friday afternoon that her husband was okay and Shes A Sassy Beach was able to get off the icy track safely thanks to assistance from fellow horsepeople and that the mare required a few stitches but is otherwise okay.
