Derek Buntain Passes

Derek Buntain, of Brackley Beach, P.E.I., passed peacefully on Sunday (Nov. 29) at the Prince Edward Home in Charlottetown, P.E.I. He was 79.

Buntain was the owner of Buntainwood Farm, which was most notably connected to Maritime standout Malabrigo and her foals by Somebeachsomewhere, 20-time winner Malnificent and 5-time winner Mirasol.

The beloved husband of Dianne Buntain (née Wood), Derek will be remembered by his sons, Angus and Andrew; granddaughter, Libby; and step-children, Kelly Refuse (Karl) and William Nelles. Derek was predeceased by his parents, George and Eileen (Longworth) Buntain; and his former wife, Elinor (Violino) Buntain.

Arrangements are in the care of Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, P.E.I. Due to heath restrictions, a private service will be held. If so desired, donations in Derek’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
