New Vocations Looking For Breedings

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program is currently organizing its 15th annual Stallion Auction.

The auction will be held through ongait.com from February 11, 2013 to February 15, 2013.

“This is a dangerous time for unwanted horses, and a successful stallion auction is essential to our ability to handle the staggering number of horses that need us,” said the organization's executive director, Dot Morgan.

New Vocations has placed over 4,000 retired racehorses since its inception and will adopt nearly 400 this year. New Vocations annually offers hundreds of former racehorses a safety net through transitional training and placement in carefully screened and monitored homes.

“We take retiring racehorses, break them to ride, and care for their needs until a qualified adopter can be found,” said Morgan. “Then we educate the adopters on the idiosyncrasies of racehorses, answer myriads of questions, encourage them through problems, and offer training guidelines. And we take the horse back when the adopter gets a divorce, loses a job, relocates to an apartment, changes interests, or simply no longer wants the expense! This is no small feat! We must have help, lots of it.

"The stallion auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year. If you have a breeding that’s not going to be used, please consider donating it. Or, if you know someone that’s not using their share, let them know about our need. Generating dollars is the ultimate goal, so if you don’t have a breeding, think about a year-end monetary contribution.”

New Vocations is a 501 (c) 3 charity so donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law. FMI email [email protected] or call 937-947-4020. Donations can be made at horseadoption.com or mailed to New Vocations 3293 Wright Rd. Laura, OH 45337. Every gift, large or small goes toward the care, retraining, and placement of retired racehorses. So, please, don’t put it off, do it now. We need your help to carry out this mission.
