Ontario-eligible yearlings were extremely well received during the second session of the Standardbred Horse Sales Company's Select Yearling Sale.

On Tuesday, 37 Ontario-eligible yearlings went through the sales ring at Harrisburg. Those yearlings amassed a gross total of $1.852 million, resulting in an average sale price of $50,054. Over the two days thus far, 47 Ontario-sired yearlings have sold with a $2.44 million gross and $51,915 average.

A total of 309 yearlings sold on Tuesday for gross sales of $12.166 million, averaging $39,372 per yearling. All told, 479 yearlings have been auctioned off at Harrisburg over two days with gross sales exceeding $25.54 million and an average of $53,322 going into Wednesday.

There were 21 yearlings with final price tags of $100,000 or more. Hip 221 Casual Cool fetched the highest price of Tuesday's yearlings. The son of American Ideal - Sight To See is the first foal from a sister to the likes of Glowing Report, Perfect Union and Must See -- the dam of Well Said. Ken Jacobs collared the Fair Winds Farm-consigned colt for $165,000.

Also leaving the sales ring after a $150,000 bid was the next horse, pacing-bred filly Youaremycandygirl. The American Ideal filly, also consigned by Concord Stud, is from a half-sister to the aforementioned Bettor Sweet and Sweet Lou. Florida's Bill Donovan was the successful bidder.

A striking roan Kadabra filly by the name of Uvie Hanover was also collared for $150,000. From the stakes winner Upfront OBs Janet, Uvie Hanover was purchased by Serge Godin's Determination stable of Quebec.

“She is a high caliber filly,” said Luc Blais, who will train the filly. “Her conformation was very good. I liked everything about her. She looks like a very strong filly. She is beautiful, beautiful. That’s why we like her.”

Rounding out the top five yearlings of the Tuesday session was P Livi Blue Chip. The son of American Ideal - Fox Valley Shaker was purchased by Richard Hill for $145,000. P Livi Blue Chip is a half-brother to former world champion freshman filly Pretty Katherine.

“We’re very happy,” Standardbred Horse Sales Company President and CEO Pete Spears said. “We think the sale continued very strong after a fantastic sale yesterday. There was still a great deal of enthusiasm. We had a number of $100,000 horses. I still had many people coming up to me saying they hadn’t been able to buy yet, they’d been shut out. We’re very optimistic that tomorrow will be strong as well.

“To be honest, if we sold any for $200,000 today they were misplaced because we wanted those kinds of horses the first day,” Spears said. “The bottom line is right now we’re very, very happy. We have momentum going into tomorrow and a lot of people still need to buy.”
