Tight Race In Atlantic Dream Stable

Published: November 6, 2020 11:04 am EST

The inaugural Atlantic Dream Stable competition all comes down to Woodmere Rollnpop on Sunday afternoon as to whether Tom MacPhee holds on to his newfound lead or if Tom Hollis can retake the front.

Hollis has led the way for weeks in the competition but MacPhee closed the gap in the Maritime Breeders final last Saturday with Windemere Ryan’s second-place finish to find himself with $516,025 in stable earnings, $3,917 ahead of Hollis. The only way for Hollis to regain the top spot is for Woodmere Rollnpop to win his Donnie and George Turner Memorial division in Race 9 on Sunday afternoon at Truro Raceway. Kathy Furness sits in third spot but will not be able to close the gap.

The winner of the competition, presented by the P.E.I. Standardbred Breeders Association, will receive the $1,000 grand prize sponsored by JD Marine and Diving, MCA Consultants, Newport Consulting and Woodmere Standardbreds.

Each entrant in the competition picks 12 horses, two from each division, with the top grossing stable in Atlantic Stakes racing earning the grand prize. Only the three-year-old pacers are still competing and both MacPhee and Hollis have the same pair of sophomore fillies. That leaves just the colts to decide the outcome and with both participants holding Tobins Rebel in their stable that leaves just Woodmere Rollnpop for Hollis and Windemere Ryan for MacPhee to have any impact. With Windemere Ryan not eligible to the Turner stake, the Clare MacDonald-trained and driven Woodmere Rollnpop is all that matters as the competition comes down to the wire.

The entry fee for the contest was $20, with all proceeds going to the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax.

Second place prize is dinner for four at the Top Of The Park in Red Shores Charlottetown with third place in the competition receiving a Gold Cup & Saucer Merchandise package. The fourth through 10th place finishers will receive a $25 Red Shores gift card.
