Trot Insider has learned that St Lads Zoom Zoom, the morning line favourite for Saturday night's $60,000 final of the Autumn Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack, has been scratched and sidelined indefinitely due to an injury.
The Woodbine Entertainment Group's communications department confirmed Friday evening that St Lads Zoom Zoom has been scratched. According to co-owner and breeder Bob Ladouceur of St Lads Farm, the son of Apaches Fame suffered an injury during his elimination victory last weekend.
“He broke his navicular bone,” Ladouceur told WEG's communications department. “It must of happened during the race. Maybe going into the first turn because a horse made a break in front of him, which made him go wide. He wasn’t right when got on the trailer that night and was even worse the following morning.
“It’s really unfortunate. He raced tremendous in his elimination and we expected another fine performance in the final. We will take the necessary steps to get him back 100 per cent.”
The Greg Horn trainee has won eight of his nine career starts including his elimination last weekend in a lifetime-best 1:52.4. He has banked $61,725 in purses for St Lads Farm and co-owner Diane Stephenson.
Saturday's division of the Autumn is for Ontario-sired sophomore colts and gelding pacers, who are non-winners of $50,000 lifetime or non-winners of $30,000 in 2012 as of midnight, October 31. Also eligible P L Fighter will draw into the race and start from post five.
