David Mast Kauffman, 83, of Millersburg, Ohio, passed away on September 20 at his residence in Holmes County with his family at his side.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1932, to Katie (Mast) and Chester Kauffman and married Patricia Klingler on Aug. 19, 1951, who survives.

Kauffman had a brilliant mind with a vivacious and caring spirit. He always had time to help someone out or offer advice. He was a successful business owner, loved to play golf and always enjoyed a good game of euchre.

He was an avid horseman for more than 50 years. Harness racing was his passion. Kauffman was a successful and respected owner/breeder/trainer/driver, racing at many local fairs, Northfield Park, The Meadows and Scioto Downs.

His favourite horse was Apollo l, who he bred and brought into this world in 1971. The daughter of Project Apollo-Windale Ladybird amassed $152,635 in purse money for her proud owner, set her lifetime mark of 1:59.1 as a seven-year-old and competed until she was nine.

Kauffman was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather. His legacy will live on in his children: Mike Kauffman (Liz), Vickie Miller (Harry), Kris Arnold (Frank), Kim Kauffman (Deb), as well as eight grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Norma Hamsher; and a brother-in-law, Tom Hamsher.

Kauffmann will be sadly missed by those that love him.
