In an attempt to increase awareness of available scholarships, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation is launching an initiative to serve as a clearing house for harness racing-related grants
. The HHYF hopes to list all available scholarships, regardless of sponsor, on its website.
"When my son was looking for scholarships, he missed deadlines on several despite doing extensive research simply because the available scholarships were listed in dozens of places," explained HHYF Project Manager Keith Gisser. "Hopefully all scholarship grantors will send us their information so we can make it available through a single source. That should help all students looking for aid."
"We are not looking to 'take over' anyone's scholarship," HHYF Executive Director Ellen Taylor emphasized. "We simply want all these organizations to look at us as a centralized source to get the word out. We do offer scholarship administration service to anyone who requests it, but that is not the purpose of this project. We are simply trying to consolidate all this information in one place."
Scholarship information may be sent to Keith Gisser at [email protected]. Please include the name and amount of the scholarship, the application deadline, any restrictions on eligibility and the source for applications. This information will be listed and linked at the HHYF website.
