Fall is better known as 'Yearling Sale Season' among members of the horse racing industry. This is where hopes and dreams are launched as owners and trainers attempt to collar that next North America Cup or Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion. Here the sport’s future stars will leave the breeding farm behind to begin their journey to the racetrack.

On October 14 & 15, the London Selected Yearling Sale, presented by Standardbred Canada and the Forest City Yearling Sale, will feature several educational workshops for new and prospective owners who want to learn about shopping for yearlings.

On both the Saturday and Sunday, there will be three 30-minute workshops, sponsored by Ontario Racing and Ontario Lottery & Gaming. The workshops will start at 9:30 a.m. and run through to 11:30 a.m.

  • Ask The Experts – (9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.) This session will feature trainers and officials who will answer your questions about Finding A Trainer & Yearling Sale Shopping

  • How To Read A Pedigree – (10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.) This session will teach you how to decipher all of that valuable info on a yearling’s pedigree page

  • Understanding Conformation – (11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) This session will offer information on what you should look for when inspecting a horse.

If you’ve never been to a yearling sale and are interested in attending and learning more about how to select a yearling and how to read pedigrees, these workshops are for you!

There is no cost to attend but seating is limited, so please register in advance.

Contact [email protected] or contact Kathy or Hailey at Standardbred Canada at 905-858-3060, to reserve your spot today!

The 2017 London Selected Yearling Sale takes place at the Western Fair District Metroland Media Agriplex in London, Ont.
