Updated: Denny Walton Passes

Denny Walton, a longtime owner, trainer and driver who has also been a fixture in the race office and backstretch at Hazel Park Raceway, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25

at the age of 74.

Born in Toronto, Ont., Walton raced his small stable of horses at all the racetracks in Michigan as well as across the Canadian border at Windsor Raceway.

He also served as assistant race secretary at Hazel Park, first under director of racing Ken Marshall and currently under race secretary Ladd Biro, both of whom were among Walton’s closest friends. He was also a big supporter of amateur racing in Michigan.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 5 at the Hazel Park First United Methodist Church, 315 E. Ten Mile Road, Hazel Park, Mich. 48030. Visitation is at 10:30 a.m., with the services at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow.
