The complexion of the 2018 Breeders Crown Final for three-year-old trotting colts & geldings changed dramatically with the announcement that morning line favourite Six Pack would be scratched.
Trainer Åke Svanstedt made the announcement through Twitter on Friday, stating that Six Pack "has been sick and will not be racing in the Breeders Crown tomorrow night. Next start will be at Dover Downs in the Matron."
Six Pack was coming into the Breeders Crown final on a five-race win streak, including the Kentucky Futurity and Yonkers Trot. He won the Futurity final in 1:49.1, the fastest mile ever by a three-year-old trotter. Six Pack has won 10 of 13 races and $970,573 this year for owners Svanstedt, Little E, Stall Kalmar FF, and Lars Berg.
Six Pack won his Breeders Crown elimination by three-quarters of a length over returning champion Fiftydallarbill in 1:53.3.
The field for the sophomore colt trot had already changed once this week with the scratch of Wolfgang, also due to sickness. That scratch allowed second also eligible Lawmaker to draw into the race.
