Trotters Set To Spar At Red Shores

A place etched forever in the record books is on the line Saturday afternoon in the Maritime Breeders finals at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Maritime Breeders finals for two and three-year-old trotters headlines the 12-dash Saturday afternoon card that gets underway at 12:30 p.m.

Mabou Ridge and Tequila Tuesday will again face off in the fourth race, the $12,100 Maritime Breeders final for two-year-old trotters. Mabou Ridge holds the advantage this season as he has bested his rival in six out of nine meetings but Tequila Tuesday has been making them count lately. He has a three-race win streak on the line, including wins in the Island Breeders final and Atlantic Breeders Crown, and he aims for the Maritime Triple Crown in his division. Clare MacDonald will drive Mabou Ridge from post three for owner Arnold Rankin of Antigonish, N.S., while Myles Heffernan Sr., drives Tequila Tuesday from post five for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owner Jackie Heffernan of Summerville. Completing the championship field are Mykindofparty (Gary Chappell), Westview Star (Corey MacPherson) and Go With Her (Steven Shepherd).

The sophomore trotters go to the gate in the sixth race, the $10,700 Maritime Breeders final. The heavyweight in the division, Gettin Messi, is absent leaving the race wide-open. Thelastonestanding gets the respect of morning line favourite from post four with Brian MacPhee at the controls for trainer Ambyr Campbell and owners Donald Beaton of Port Hood and Donald MacEachern of Upper Margaree, N.S. The son of Northern Bailey comes into Saturday’s race with three straight second- places finishes, including his last two against Gettin Messi. Dusty Lane Titan (Marc Campbell) has rail control with 11 straight on-the-board finishes while Richsnortherndream (Kenny Arsenault) is installed at 3-1 morning line odds from post five. Other entries include BJ Santana (Ambyr Campbell), Setting Day (Mike McGuigan), Little Miss Winnie (Clare MacDonald) and Whim Road Gem (Jack Panting).

Screen Test is favoured in the $2,800 Preferred Pace with Corey MacPherson in the seat for trainer Stephen Gass and owners William Andrew of Calgary, Alta., and Kickin Horse Stable of York. Other top entrants in the card's eleventh race are JJ Powerball (Adam Merner) and Burn Out Hanover (Gilles Barrieau).
