IC True Grit Looks To Get Up

Published: October 24, 2018 01:43 pm EDT

IC True Grit, who was within inches of making the winner’s circle in his latest pair of starts, will look to put it all together this Thursday evening (Oct. 25) in the featured dash at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Thursday program will be the last mid-week card at the capital oval, as action will shift to strictly weekend racing starting next week.

The CDP’s 10-dash Thursday card will kick off with a 6:30 P.M. first-race post time. The program’s $2,100 top-class contest will line up for Race 9.

IC True Grit has been installed as the morning line favourite from Post 2. Gilles Barrieau is scheduled to be in the driver’s seat for trainer Jackie Matheson and owners Joey Gallant and Ingham Jenkins of Charlottetown, P.E.I.

The son of No Pan Intended finished second in his last two starts and was beaten less than a head in each of those races. One of the pacers that beat IC True Grit will square off with him again this week, as Jeb will start from Post 5 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes. Jeb is riding a quartet of top-two finishes into Thursday’s race.

Nogreatmischief will have rail control for trainer-driver Walter Cheverie. The former Governor’s Plate finalist will be looking to secure his first trip to the CDP winner’s circle since May.

Also in the field will be Likely To Win (to be driven by Adam Merner), Rockin Indy (David Dowling) and Stars Above (Mike McGuigan).

Race 8 on the program will see Killean Finale make her first east coast start from Post 6 in the field of as many. Ken Murphy drives the winner of $175,000 for trainer Clifford Murphy and owners Dr. Mary McNiven and Pacemaker Stable of Nine Mile Creek, P.E.I. The five-year-old daughter of Sportswriter last raced in a conditioned race at Delaware’s Harrington Raceway.

Majian Tango will headline the card’s $1,950 Open Trot (Race 7) for trainer-driver Jim Ripley and owner Marylea Ripley of Amherst, N.S. The son of Tad The Stud has had three wins thus far in his four-year-old campaign, including a win in his last start on Oct. 11. He was subsequently scratched last week due to a travel restriction on the Confederation Bridge. Other top entries include Dusty Lane Jacob (Merner) and Frill Seeker (Kenny Arsenault).
