Win streaks are the theme of the weekend at Red Shores as Time To Dance will put his five-race win streak to the test in Sunday afternoon’s Invitational pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 12-dash Sunday card has a 1:00 p.m. opening post time at the Prince County oval with the $4,000 Invitational pace lining up in the afternoon finale. The race is the Mayor Basil Stewart - City of Summerside Appreciation Pace with the Prince County Horsemen’s Club holding a special trackside presentation.
Gold Cup & Saucer champion Time To Dance will leave from Post 4 in the field of six with trainer Marc Campbell aboard for owners Brent Campbell of Charlottetown and Matt McDonald of Edwards, Ont. The four-year-old son of A Rocknroll Dance has found the winner’s circle nine times this season while banking $60,115 in purses. He will again face off against Rose Run Quest on Sunday as the Gilles Barrieau-trained and driven pacer will leave from Post 3. The If I Can Dream gelding has had a win and two seconds in his last three tries.
Local favourite Heart And Soul has rail control with Jason Hughes in the bike for trainer George Riley while Gold Cup & Saucer runner-up Lisburn (Kenny Arsenault) has Post 2. Woodmere Ideal Art (David Dowling) leaves from Post 5 with the outside Post 6 belonging to Johnny Conroy Invitational runner-up Silver Beast (Dale Spence).
The Backstretch Beat in Sunday’s card puts the target firmly on Time To Dance’s back as the top contender. “Time To Dance rides into this event on a five-race win streak including the Gold Cup & Saucer final. This is his race to lose.”
The $2,750 afternoon back-up class lines up in Race 8. Brandons Glory is the morning line choice from the outside Post 5 with Spence at the lines for trainer MacKenzie MacInnis and owner Cindy Gunn of Saint John, N.B. The tight-knit field includes Legendary Ron (Adam Merner), Creepin (Dowling), Best To Hurst (Barrieau) and Soccer Hanover (Corey MacPherson).
The PEI Matinee Racing Finals will also be featured on the afternoon card with participants going to the gate after race 2 & 4. The horses, drivers and post positions are available here.
