Former horse owner and longtime patron of Hiawatha Horse Park, Gerald ‘Bud’ Getty, of Corunna, Ont., passed away on Thursday, September 27, at Sarnia's Bluewater Health, at the age of 83, while surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his wife Bonnie, sister Beatrice, and his brothers, who were both horse owners as well, Charles (Sonny) and Donald, Getty is survived by his sister Marlene Fisher (Paul), son Gerry, daughter Karen Corner (Rick), his grandsons Ryan (Cassandra) and Jeff, and his two great-grandchildren, as well as his many loving nieces and nephews.

From a family with deep roots in Canadian racing, and affectionately known as 'Bud' everywhere he went, Getty dabbled in ownership during his lifetime, but was better known in the Sarnia area as a loyal and beloved patron of Hiawatha since the day the facility first opened. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends, and everyone at Hiawatha Horse Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Bud's memory can be sent to the Racetrack Chaplaincy of Canada at P.O. Box 331; Campbellville, ON. L0P1B0.

Please join Standardbred Canada in sending condolences to the family and friends of Bud Getty.
