Ontario Racing would like to inform broodmare owners that mare enrollment forms and renewal forms for the Ontario Resident Mare program have been mailed for the 2018 foal year.
To qualify as an Ontario Resident Mare, and have your foal registered as ‘Ontario Bred,’ the mare must be enrolled in the program for each foaling year and meet the program’s eligibility requirements, including being resident in the Province of Ontario at the time of enrollment and remaining resident in the province for 180 consecutive days surrounding the day of foaling.
There is an annual enrollment fee of $100 per mare before foaling or $300 after foaling but before September 1, 2018. If enrolling after foaling, proof of residency must be submitted at time of enrollment.
If you have a mare in foal for 2018 and have not received a form, it can be downloaded from the Ontario Racing website, or requested by emailing [email protected] or calling Kathie Wilkinson at 416 477-5529.
Only foals out of mares enrolled in the program are entitled to earn Ontario Bred Rewards, which are payable to and intended to directly reward the breeder or mare owner who made the decision to participate by enrolling the mare in the Ontario Resident Mare Program.
