Crown Entry, Supplement Deadline Nears

Published: October 12, 2018 02:44 pm EDT

On Monday (Oct. 15), the entry box will close for potential supplements to the three-year-old and older races and all two-year old divisions of the $6 million Breeders Crown Finals on Oct. 27 at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

The Pocono condition sheet can be accessed here.

Supplemental entries for three-year-old and open events are due and payable by 12 noon (Eastern) Monday (Oct. 15) in the race office at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono. There are no supplements for the two-year-old races.

Foreign invitees to the Crown Trot must also declare by noon on Monday.

Supplemental declaration amounts vary by division. Click here for more instructions on supplementing.

The entrance fee is included in the supplemental amount. A minimum of half the amount of the supplemental fee, minus the entrance fee, will be added to the purse. This one-time supplemental payment makes a horse eligible to all subsequent years’ Breeders Crown events under the normal schedule of payments.

Two-year-olds eligible to the $600,000 freshman events must declare in by 9 a.m. Monday.

Three-year-olds and older horses eligible to their respective divisions must declare in by 9 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 16).

Eliminations, if needed, will occur for two-year-olds on Friday (Oct. 19) with three-year-old and open eliminations next Saturday (Oct. 20). Both nights start at the regular post time of 7 p.m. Eastern.

Eliminations split at 12 entries. Because there are no trailers allowed at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, if 10 or 11 horses enter, the two highest money earners receive byes and there will be a single elimination to “qualify” the remaining horses for the final.

If there are eliminations, post positions in thefFinal will be determined by an open draw, with the exception that elimination winners, in an order determined by lot, will draw for post positions 1 through 5 in the final. All other finalists, including foreign invitees, will be placed in an open draw for the remaining post positions. Those horse(s) that receive a bye into the final will be in the open draw for post positions in the final. All horses that start in the final receive money.

There will be 24-hour retention barns for eliminations and finals.

The 12 Breeders Crown events will be raced Saturday, Oct. 27 with an early post time of 5:30 p.m. Eastern. There will be 15 per cent takeout on all wagers on all three days of Breeders Crown competition.
