The entry box for supplements to the three-year-old and older Breeders Crown races and for all eligible horses to declare in to the $7 million USD year-end championship events at Meadowlands Racetrack closes next week.

Supplemental entries for three-year-old and open events are due and payable by noon (EDT) on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Meadowlands race office in East Rutherford, N.J. There are no supplements for two-year-old races.

The supplemental fee is 12 per cent of the advertised purse. Supplemental declaration amounts are listed below, with the guaranteed purses.

  • $600,000 USD Three-Year-Old Events - $72,000 USD supplemental entry fee
  • $600,000 USD Open Trot & Pace - $72,000 USD supplemental entry fee
  • $400,000 USD Open Mare Pace & Trot - $48,000 USD supplemental entry fee

The entrance fee is included in the supplemental amount. The percentage of the supplement added to the purse is determined by The Hambletonian Society.

This one-time supplemental payment also makes a horse eligible to all subsequent years’ Breeders Crown events under the normal schedule of payments.

All eligible Breeders Crown horses enter on Tuesday (Oct. 15) by 9 a.m. Two-year-olds will have eliminations on Friday (Oct. 18) on a rare Meadowlands day card with a post time of 12:30 p.m.  All three-year-old and up events that require eliminations will be held on Saturday night (Oct. 19). Eligible three-year-olds have the option of entering the sophomore event to which they were nominated or an Open event.

The Meadowlands' condition sheet can be accessed here.

All eliminations will race for a minimum of $25,000 USD. If there are eliminations, post positions in the final will be determined by an open draw with the exception that elimination winners, in an order determined by lot, will draw for post positions number one through six in the final. All other finalists will be placed in an open draw for the remaining post positions. Any horse(s) that receive a bye into the final will be in the open draw for post positions in the final. The two Win and You’re In horses (Champagne Problems and Maryland) for the freshman trot divisions skip the eliminations and draw for posts 1-6 in the final. The winner receives 50 per cent of the purse but all horses that start in the final receive money.

All two-year-old Breeders Crown races will be held Friday, Oct. 25 with a post time of 6:20 p.m. (EDT). All three-year-old and Open Breeders Crown events will race Saturday, Oct. 26 also with a post of 6:20 p.m.
