Leonard Bradt Passes

With heavy hearts, the family of Standardbred breeder and racehorse owner Leonard John Bradt has announced that Leonard, who was in his 85th year, passed away at the Hamilton General Hospital on Tuesday, October 9 with his children by his side.

Leonard bred and raced Standardbreds for roughly 25 years via a small family stable (VMB Stable). Some of Leonard’s more prominent horses were Uphill Battle p,6,1:51.1f ($504,981), Shes A Looker p,5,1:52.4s ($468,464), Ready For Battle p,6,1:50.2s ($148,808), along with many more.

Beloved husband of the late Vera Marie Bradt (1988). Loving father of Chris and Tracy. Dear brother of Muriel Winger (the late Walter), Viola Partington (Don), Marilyn Anderson (Harry). Predeceased by brothers Charlie, Andy (Leone), Jim Bradt and sisters Georgia Manchester, Leona Bradt, Cora Scruton (Wayne), Juanita Smyth, Audrey Roloson (John). Leonard will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday (Oct. 14) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Monday (Oct. 15) from 11 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery.
