Longtime industry participant Cecil Stewart of Ellerslie, PEI passed away at Summerside's Prince County Hospital on Monday, October 7, 2013.
Born in Mount Pleasant on May 10, 1918, son of the late Charles and Annie (Ramsay) Stewart, Cecil was a Veteran of World War II. In addition to training an driving, Cecil bred and owned Standardbreds on Prince Edward Island and named many with the prefix of "Binies" -- a tribute to his late wife Binie. One of Cecil's favourite horses was Binies Bismarck J, a stakes-winning Drop Off filly.
Dear father to Leon (Corinne), Summerside; Elmer (Eleanor), Tyne Valley; John, Fredericton; Lester (Florence), Albany; Doris (late Oswald) Winchester, Summerside; Charlene (James MacDonald), Mount Pleasant; Charlie (Terry), North Enmore; Hazel (Ricky MacDonald), Bruce (Judy), Kinkora; Edgar (Marie), Mount Pleasant; Eva (Larry MacDonald), Enmore; Jessie (Art Rogers), Summerside; Jean (Doug MacKendrick), Tyne Valley; Lorne (Karen), Kingston; Lillian (Kenny Rogers), Summerside; Rebecca (Kent Rogers), Tyne Valley and Ricky (Tammy), Freeland.
Loving grandfather to 39 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Cecil is also survived by his sister Reby Sullivan, Truro, NS and sister in law Olive Grigg, Tyne Valley.
Predeceased by his parents, wife Binie (1987), granddaughter Kathleen, step grandson Joey, son in law Oswald Winchester, brothers: Arthur, Kenny, Spurgeon, Murdock, Victor, Bob, Edgar and sisters Bertha and Elva.
Services have already taken place. In memory of Cecil, memorials to Prince County Horsemen’s Club or People’s Cemetery would be appreciated.
