Susie Helfrich Passes

Published: January 8, 2021 01:32 pm EST

Susie Helfrich, 99, passed on Jan. 2, 2021, at Court House Manor in Washington Court House, Ohio, where she had resided in recent years.

She was a graduate of Washington Court House High School and Middletown School of Nursing. She was a lifelong resident of Fayette County.

When she was married to Neil Helfrich, they were quite involved in harness racing for many years. They raced horses under the Su Ne Rich stable name at racetracks in several states. The top pacing horses in the stable were Majestic Jerry ($341,930), Little Jerry Way ($314,794) and Jerry Gauman ($290,376).

They spent a lot of time traveling to watch their horses race out east at Brandywine Raceway and Roosevelt with Hervé Filion as their main driver, and every fall also loved to go to the Tattersalls Horse Sale in Lexington, Ky.

Mrs. Helfrich was a great advocate of racing and had so many friends in the industry. She was a dynamic individual and was really great to be around as she could go on and on with great stories from the past that would greatly entertain everyone.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the friends and family of Susie Helfrich.
