The University of Delaware’s Susan Truehart Garey has been named winner of the 2012 Service to Youth Award by the Harness Horse Youth Foundation.

Garey currently serves as a Statewide Extension Agent in Animal Science and has a wide and varied background of service through extension, 4H and other organizations in addition to volunteering with HHYF. She joins a distinguished list of Service To Youth honourees that includes the Hanover Shoe Farms Foundation, Noel Daley, John Campbell, Martin Scharf, Brittany Farms, Odds On Racing and Ellen Harvey.

“I can't tell you how surprised I was when I was told I was chosen for the Service to Youth Award," Garey said. "I am truly honoured to be in the company of the past winners. I have a strong appreciation for the harness racing industry (and) the people involved and the horses themselves. I feel that I have received much, much more from partnering with Ellen and the HHYF over the years than I have given."

Among Garey's other awards are the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Lighthouse Award and the NAE4-HA awards, both awards that show the recognition of her achievements by her peers.
