Harold Snyder, founder of International Sound Co., headquartered in Pikesville, Md. a leading provider of video and sound at many racetrack in America and a company which enjoyed an enviable reputation for integrity, passed away, at age 91, on January 26.
After nearly 60 years providing video and audio at a large number of Standardbred and Thoroughbred racetracks in America, Snyder, the president of International Sound, rarely missed a day of work. He often would visit the dozens of tracks his company served.
In 2013, International Sound installed a new, high definition control room at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey. The previous year, the company purchased Teleview, a Florida-based company that provides similar services to several Florida Greyhound tracks.
In addition to the Meadowlands, the International Sound product was featured at Delaware tracks, Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway, Rosecroft Raceway and Ocean Downs in Maryland, at Pennsylvania, Ohio and a number of other raceways around the country.
A few years ago, Snyder handed the daily operations to his son, David, but remained close to the company’s operation providing numerous high-quality products and services for the racing industry, including video production, digital graphics, sound, photo-finish and race-timing systems.
Last fall, Harold received the Humphrey S. Finney Award for lifetime achievement from the Maryland Racing Media Association.
Harold is survived by his wife, Marcia; four children, a brother, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Owing Mills, Md.
