Popular horse owner George Young of Calgary, Alta. passed away after a short but valiant fight with cancer on January 18, 2011 in Maple Ridge, B.C.

Originally from Scotland, George had a great passion for golf, fishing and the horses. He owned and raced numerous horses with the Beelby clan and most recently with Keith Clark. Some of his favourites included Walpole, Dashing Falcon, Sweet Tek Neek, and Balanchine. His proudest moment in harness racing came this past July when homebred Clintons Escape won the $105,000 Brad Gunn Stake in a track and all aged record of 1:50.2 at Alberta Downs.

Predeceased by both parents Nancy (2002) and George (2004). He will be greatly missed by sister Darlene (Steve) and brother Bruce (Marilyn). Callum, Cassie, Kaylin and Fraser will love and miss their favourite Uncle forever. Also missing George are many family and great friends from B.C, Calgary and around the world. George loved his family, his work (Pipe and Piling Supplies), his golf, fishing and his horses. George was a man of integrity and honour with a heart of gold and appreciated the support and friendships in his life. A Celebration of Life will be held this spring in Calgary at his favourite golf course.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of George Young.
