ROMP Handicapping League Update

Week three of the inaugural handicapping championship offered by Racetracks of Ontario Marketing & Promotions kicked off last night at all seven participating

locations.

A light turn-out for Hiawatha Horse Park’s first contest night means big opportunity for savvy bettors in the Sarnia area. With five weeks left in the competition and just one team currently in play at the site, the recently reopened simulcast operation is ripe for the picking.

Each site’s top two teams advance to the finals (currently valued at $11,000 and growing each week). Teams must play a minimum of four weeks in the eight-week contest. Therefore, interested bettors at Hiawatha (and the other sites) can join as late as week five (February 4) and still qualify for the big dance on March 4.

The top team from January 21 was 'The Farm,' from Grand River Raceway. Team members Dave Purdy, Robert Purdy and Melanie Asselin receive $100 for their top bankroll of $163.30 in the 10-race contest.

The ROMP Handicapping league is offered at the following tracks: Clinton, Flamboro, Hanover, Georgian, Grand River, and Western Fair and Hiawatha Horse Park.

League teams consist of three members who compete against teams at participating facilities. There is a $10 cost per team, per week, which entitles the team to three free programs from the three-track standardbred menu.

All entry fees are added to the $10,000 grand prize offering. With more than 50 teams now registered, the grand prize is currently valued at $11,500. Each team’s weekly cumulative (hypothetical) bankrolls will determine which two teams from each track will advance to the finals on March 4.

Full league details, and current standings are available on the ROMP website.
