Harness Tracks of America has announced that Dave Briggs has earned the organization's 2012 Dan Patch Award.
Dave Briggs, who since 1995 has been the editor of and writer for The Canadian Sportsman, Canada’s oldest magazine, has won Harness Tracks of America’s Dan Patch Award for exceptional media, publicity and public relations contributions to the sport of harness racing.
A former sportswriter for The London Free Press, Briggs has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Windsor and the University of Western Ontario, respectively. Known industry-wide for his fine writing, reporting and insightful commentary, as well as his editorial skills, Briggs was named Publisher of The Canadian Sportsman in January 2012. In addition to his magazine work, he writes a weekly harness racing column for the Guelph Mercury. Briggs is also a past winner of a Standardbred Canada Media Excellence Award, two International Harness Racing Media Awards in conjunction with the World Trotting Conference, four American Horse Publication Awards, the Ontario Equestrian Federation Media of the Year Award, and four United States Trotting Association John Hervey Awards.
Briggs lives in Port Stanley, Ont., with his wife Laura and three children, Moira, Liam and Erin.
Briggs will receive his Dan Patch Award at the 2013 Harness Racing Congress, during the U.S. Harness Writers Association Dan Patch Awards Dinner at the Westin Beach Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sunday, March 3.
