The North American Standardbred racing industry recently lost one of its longtime racecallers, as ‘Bullet’ Bob Meyer has passed away at the age of 80.

Tributes have started to appear online for Meyer, who began announcing horse racing back in 1970. He is best known for his almost 30-year run of calling races at Yonkers Raceway. He had served as the back-up announcer at Saratoga Casino Raceway in recent years.

“It is with great sadness that I can report that ‘Bullet’ Bob Meyer has passed away,” current Saratoga announcer Mike Sardella has stated via social media. “Bob was a mentor to me, was supportive throughout my journey into the announcer’s booth, and served as a fill-in for me as recently as 2017. Bob was a legend and will be greatly missed. RIP 'Bullet.'”

Trot Insider will update this notice when more information becomes available.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Bob Meyer.
