Mach Away Upsets At Northlands

Northlands Park’s program on Saturday, December 31 featured a $10,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace, which went to pocket-sitter Mach Away over 3-5 favourite Tajmeallover and Red Star Katrina in 1:55.1.

Competing for owner Bryan Brook, Mach Away, a six-year-old mare by Mach Three from the Pacific Fella mare Digga Digga, has earned $142,992 after winning her 28th race in 126 starts. She's trained by Rod Hennessy, and was driven by Mike Hennessy. That duo teamed up later in the card to win with Just Becoz at odds of 4-5 in a 1:59.2 wire-to-wire score.

The final harness race of 2016 was also contested at Northlands Park. Capping off the program and the year, 3-5 favourite Eliseuinthedust swept to the lead moving into the final turn and strode home to win in 1:57.2 over G Ts Selene and Rs Dancer.

Winning her 14th race in 69 starts, Eliseuinthedust, a five-year-old mare by Brandons Cowboy from the Royal Mattjesty mare Truck Stops Here, has earned $81,240 for owner-trainer-driver Brandon Campbell, who won earlier in the card with Total Rhythm in 1:56.4, in partnership with Jodi Loftus. Eliseuinthedust paid $3.20.
