Award-winning racing writer Dave Perkins of the Toronto Star has penned an article in today's edition with an update on the drivers that were involved in the multi-horse crash that occurred at Woodbine Racetrack
on March 2.
"I think everybody wants to defy the odds and get back out there – this is how we make a living," Mayotte told Perkins. "I know I don't like sitting around. I've been to the gym, worked on the treadmill, anything to keep busy."

Too bad that the person who made the comment at the end of "The Star" article, that Horse racing should be abolished, and further refers to a "cop" making the statement "the trouble with horse racing is that you don't know whether to test the driver or the horse for drugs" is not educated of what he/she speaks. For in truth, both the drivers and the horses are tested randomly every race night.
This type of attitude and comment, unfortunately only serves to further harm an already struggling industry which supports so many people.
I have been involved in harness racing for just under 50 years, and can tell you most emphatically, no-one loves their horses more than I, and the tag you choose to put on our industry identifies the select few, not the majority.
I do not make this statement to be confrontational, but to invite you to please investigate the industry and it's members further before you slander us all with such a cruel statement.
These animals are bred to do what they do, and for the most part they love what they do, as do we. Unfortunately all of the negative publicity of late only serves to bring out those who seem to love to jump on the band wagon of the negative thinkers and perpetuate the unfounded and unjustified negative statements of our industry as a whole.
